Thick as Thieves
I’ve been confronted with theft twice recently, which has blissfully (as in ignorance is) never really happened before. But it is a total bummer, and makes me twitchy in new ways, such as locking the door when I take a shower. Now my mom is heartbroken about having her jewelry stolen - here’s a woman with progressive dementia, forced to move out of her beloved house, and then someone steals her jewelry, which isn’t even worth much. Sucks.

Run away and join the circus

Some people are soccer moms; this weekend I’m a circus mom.
Dylan read his story in Seattle this morning at the EMP Conference and he reports that it got a good reception; people laughed and were complimentary.
Meanwhile I was checking out a “superbike” magazine at CNC coffee shop and forgot all the joy of the mixture of motorcycles and porn and it totally bummed me out.
Thank goodness there was a bed nearby
‘Cause I get a little woozy every time I see this photo. What a sexy beast. And in pink no less!
I took this in Tulum Mexico this past new year’s (2006). We stayed at a place called Zahra, which looked charming but was overpriced and dirty.
Go Eat, OK? You Look Too Skinny
Hey in Mpls. today the Aliveness Project is having their annual eat charity thing day. Many restaurants give a portion of all proceeds ($70,000.00 in donations last year) to benefit all the services for HIV-infected individuals offered by The Aliveness Project. Here’s a list of restaurants, THIS IS A PDF: mmm, my greek salad tastes good.
Tomorrow I’ll try to post
Ah, the ever exciting night-time doing work on the laptop in bed. I’ll try to post something fascinating and witty tomorrow. Maybe a list of things you don’t get to wear after turning nine, such as little girl barrettes or overalls (unless you’re a farmer). Well, I guess that was the list, but I kept meaning to take a photo of the barrettes that came with my Toki-Doki tee-shirt.
Walk Slowly Away from the Topic
Ok, the boring police called me last night and said to quit it with the motorbikes. Plus the darn blog is too text-heavy. So here’s a photo for you. I took this when Dylan and I took a 10th anniversary trip to Rome last fall. Short review: amazing incredible trip.
I’m not dead yet
I picked up my motorcycle and drove it to the office. The clutch is pretty sticky, although Dan did everything he could to make it better without replacing the whole cable. But I’ll get used to it I’m sure, after a few false starts at lights.
Dan Cunningham fixed up the bike, which is a 1974 Kawasaki and pretty much a real beater. He did an amazing job and replaced so much and got it really running wonderfully. Plus he was super nice and had great prices. So if you need Minneapolis motorcycle repair you should call him at 612-729-1846. He also is a motorcycle mechanic for vintage bikes in the winter. He did say that not only are the Ducati’s incredibly expensive to fix, but there would be a long wait time. He advised me to rethink the Suzuki SV650 or the new Ninja - so now I’ve heard from 3 or 4 independant and knowledgeable people that those ones are the best starter bikes… That is what my friend Dave who is a sound designer in Brooklyn rode all last year.
The Sin of Pride
Whoa! I got a little crazy last night posting a photo of myself in my biker chick gear. Luckily, my better sense took over and I deleted it this morning - I really dislike the whole phenomena of people posting self-portrait photos - “don’t flatter yourself!”
I passed the motorcycle endorsement test. If I had unlimited resources, time, and garage space, I would probably buy a Ducati, a Stella, and some sort of dirt bike.
Dylan and Jack are almost home from decamping to the Dells for the weekend while I took the class, and I missed them a lot!
Hell on Wheels
Well, I think I almost have all the gear for being a mid-life crisis motorcyclist jerk ruining the scene for the people keeping it real. Sari kindly loaned me her jacket because mine is in a box somewhere on its way from the Vanson factory. And I had to order pink gloves and a chrome visor so I can recreate any “failure to communicate” scenes. (now I’m going to get Google hits from from people typing in “Failure to Communicate” - it’s from the movie Cool Hand Luke. The scene from that movie Dylan would probably prefer that I recreate is the car wash scene - you know it… Sometimes he mumbles “Lucy” in his sleep, and I don’t think he’s talking about Ms. Ball.
Anyways, I take the course parts of the Basic Rider Course this weekend, and will be slowly inching my way around on the aforementioned Kawasaki for awhile until I have the confidence to upgrade. Isn’t this bike gorgeous? It makes me a little woozy. I’m afraid this is a little too rich for my blood, plus too much bike for me. It’s an Agusta Brutale 910.
