Dylan in the Star Tribune
We were up at the cabin this weekend and didn’t see the paper. So my sister called and said “oh it was so fun to see Dylan’s piece on the front of the Star Tribune’s Source section.” huh? He wrote that awhile ago and thought they were going to kill it. Hm, now I think that maybe he told me this week and I was too busy blogging about him to pay attention. Cool!
Can you tell I’m busy

Because I’m ignoring the blog. Here are some pretty lilacs in our yard - this is our best year ever for them. I read Dylan’s latest story “the Car Enthusiast” last night and it is so good! He has a real future with this. What else - Dylan tried on my motorcycle jacket and he can play the bad boy look with the best of them - what a fox, I actually had a visceral reaction to it. Plus I ordered my bike! A new Ducati 695 - go over the the permanent links to see the exact picture - it’ll be the closest I come to it for awhile until the real thing finally arrives.
What we’ve been up to lately
Dylan is finishing his next story, called “The Car Enthusiast.” I haven’t read it yet, but have heard a lot about it. It sounds very funny, and I have also heard laughter drifting through the walls while he’s been writing it two rooms down, so I think that’s a good sign.
I have been busy as a bee at work, which is a pretty unbroken pattern for the last few months. But more importantly, I think I have decided upon the motorcycle purchase. I’ve been looking at a few used Ducati’s, but think I am going to pre-order one of the new Ducati Monster 695’s, the one in gloss black with a red frame. yuuuummmmy. Anyways, I want to thank the fine folks at Manley Cycle, Minneapolis motorcycle repair and service maestros, who have been incredibly nice and helpful. They looked at some used bikes for me - for free! - and gave very good advice and opinions.
Run away and join the circus

Some people are soccer moms; this weekend I’m a circus mom.
Dylan read his story in Seattle this morning at the EMP Conference and he reports that it got a good reception; people laughed and were complimentary.
Meanwhile I was checking out a “superbike” magazine at CNC coffee shop and forgot all the joy of the mixture of motorcycles and porn and it totally bummed me out.
Merger, Aquisitions and Rapid Consolidation
Dylan has left a post or two on the “I Love Music” site, home for all obsessive-compulsive music fans, critics, and youthful fans who want to be critics some day. It is in reference to Chuck Eddy, long-time music editor for the Village Voice, being the latest victim in the takeover of VVM from New Times Media.
Slippery Slopes
Well, we just signed up for NetFlix. Dylan couldn’t find a Barbara Steisand video for his story, and they have it. Plus the few times we ever watch videos we’re always weeks late returning them. Plus to add to that, we got hooked on “The Amazing Race” reality show when trapped in a hotel room last month, and have watched it 3 times now. We love it!
Babs?!
Dylan is working on what will probably be a fantastic fiction piece for the upcoming EMP Pop Music Conference in Seattle, but his concept involves listening to a lot of 60’s and 70’s Barbara Streisand. We’ll see how my fading botox handles the increased frowning. I think I’ll go steal the ZZ Top CD from his office.
My Arms are Tired from All that Flapping
Well, I’m down in Alabama for work. It looks nice out the window, and I’m sure that when I walk across the parking lot to a full day of meetings I will notice a change in temperature. So you aren’t going to get much activity here for a few days unless Hicksy gets inspired. Check out his Neko Case review in this week’s City Pages (links to the right).
What are You Doing?
Well, the shoveling fairies arrived in the form of an energized (all jacked up on cold medicine) Dylan going out yesterday afternoon when I was still at work. Dylan is back at work today writing a review of the band Loose Fur for the Village Voice.
Belle and Sebastian
Listening a lot to it this past week. Dylan has a full review coming in next week’s City Pages. We’re looking forward to the show next week. Too bad you all missed our rousing bathroom duet of Judy and the Dream of Horses. Also a complete non-sequitor: my chiropractor is a genius. Dr. Bob Shepard. He’s the best I’ve ever gone to. And another shout-out: Thanks to Zach at Motoprimo for spending hours and 3 visits to figure out exactly the right fit for a motorcycle jacket for me. Two inches extra on the arms - I feel like a gorilla! And to just continue the stream of consciousness ramble, I LOVE the Gorillaz. I don’t think Dylan could give a hoot for them, but I think they rock.
