Emma’s Moving To Chicago
Emma’s Moving to Chicago, and she’s packin’ up the truck
She didn’t give her notice, she doesn’t give a fuck
She’s moving to Chicago, and there’s nothing you can say
She’s moving to Chicago, and she’s leaving Saturday
She broke it to her boyfriend, he took it pretty well
But some of his paperbacks we’re in that box she took to sell
Emma’s moving to Chicago, and there’s nothing you can do
She’s moving to Chicago and she isn’t taking you

Emma’s moving to Chicago, she’ll be gone before it’s dark
And when she gets there, I’ll bet she don’t find a place to park
She’s got someone to stay with that she hooked up with somewhere
I wonder if she even knows what rent costs over there
Her mother and her father are worried ‘bout the crime
But she says she wants to live in a real city this time
Emma’s moving to Chicago and there’s nothing you can do
She’s moving to Chicago and she isn’t taking you

I had a crush on Emma before I met my wife
But quickly realized that I wasn’t Emma’s type
She’d flirt with me at parties as if to rub it in
My attitude towards Emma starting changing around then
We always would invite her, we really had no choice
But my skin began to crawl at the sound of her voice
Emma’s moving to Chicago with no job or anything
Five to one says she’ll be crawlin’ back before the spring

When she told us she was moving, we were all quite surprised
And some of us agreed that the move was ill advised
But later on I guess that the liquor had its way
And I confessed that I was sick of Emma anyway
She can move on to Chicago, but who’s she trying to kid
The people in Chicago won’t take her in like we did
Emma’s moving to Chicago, and it’s gonna be ok
When we’re passing through Chicago we’ll have a place to stay
