My Best Friend
We’d talk nearly every day
Even when we had nothing to say
When we couldn’t say something new
We’d say an old thing and it still held true
That was my best friend

We saw each other’s highs and lows
We even wore each other’s clothes
One time I talked him out of killing himself
Once we stole a six-pack right off of the shelf
That was my best friend

And as high school came to an end
We were the coolest we had ever been
We said we’d never want to not be friends
But I haven’t seen that much since then
Of my best friend

I’m older and I don’t need all that
I’ve got a girlfriend, I’ve got a cat
I’ve got some guys I play softball with
Wouldn’t have much time for someone even if
They were my best friend

Some of the Summertime

All the handsome girls and pretty boys
Are heading out for the spring
Taking off those extra layers
And really shakin’ that thing
When I see ‘em getting their groove on
It makes me want to get a move on
And spend some of the summertime with you

It’s much too nice, too nice a day
For staying inside
We could take our bicycles down
Down to the waterslide
And then we’d change out of our suits
And take a ride in a parachute
I wanna spend some of the summertime with you

The sun won’t last, or so I’m told
So I hope I die before it gets cold

Last night we said some things
I know we didn’t mean
And I’ll bet you the upstairs neighbors
Heard the whole damn thing
But our love it can survive
If it’s 9 below or 95
I wanna spend some of the summertime with you
